SummaryIntermediate to advanced language work reinforcing and developing knowledge of, and proficiency in Italian syntax, vocabulary and register.
Course description One grammar seminar and two language tutorials a week.
Tutorials will tend to be focused on textual analysis and oral activities.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Italian 1 (ELCI08001)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Italian Literature: Texts in Context 2 (ELCI08005)

Pre-requisitesEntry to any language course above introductory level is subject to a language test by the relevant subject area on arrival and at the discretion of the course organiser.

Assessment (Further Info) Written Exam 60 %, Coursework 29 %, Practical Exam 11 %
Additional Information (Assessment) Class work is worth 40% (2 end of semester tests + oral and written portfolio).
Final degree exam is worth 60% (a two-hour paper). No exemption possible.
Feedback Written explanations, corrections and suggestions for improvement provided by tutors on all marked work.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand the main concepts and most relevant details of complex texts in a variety of registers and styles.
  2. Produce clear, well-structured and accurate texts on a wide range of subjects.
  3. Explain view points on a topical issue showing controlled use of organisational patterns and cohesive devices.
  4. Speak with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers possible without strain for either party even in complex situations
  5. Reach an overall linguistic competence across levels B2 -C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
