Level 7 language courses cannot be taken for credits on this degree programme.

Year 2 Academic year: 2017/18, Starting in: August

Notes:
Entry into Honours:
(1) students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years;
(2) students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in all required German second-year courses;
(3) students must achieve at least 50% overall in the relevant second-year language course(s), including at least 50% in the language component of that course.
(4) Progression to Linguistics Honours requires:
(a) an *average* of 50% across all obligatory LEL2 courses, achieved on the first sitting,
(b) a minimum of 40% in each obligatory LEL2 course, achieved on the first or second sitting.

All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad, an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable.

Politics and Institutions of Contemporary France is only available to students who have passed French 1A or French 1B.
Scandinavian Languages 2 is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in year one.
It is recommended that students take at least 20 credits of further LEL2 courses.

During 3rd year: at least 30 weeks must be spent in a relevant country and prescribed work completed in Linguistics and the relevant language.

Final Assessment: One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.).

2. (German 4 Honours Language Paper 1).
3. (German 4 Honours Language Paper 2).
4. (German Oral).
5. (Year abroad work for MEl/LEL degrees).
6. (Year abroad work for MEL/LEL degrees).
7. (MEL Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8) OR LEL Preparation Abroad OR MEL Year Abroad Assessment).
8. (MEL Dissertation or Dissertation completion following study abroad (Language Sciences) OR MEL Long Essay).
9. (Honours option course in German).
