DEGREE REGULATIONS & PROGRAMMES OF STUDY 2022/2023

Please choose 40 credits from the MAIN SUBJECT PATHWAY that you focused your studies on during year 1, unless you are on the GEOGRAPHY PATHWAY, in which case, choose 60 credits.

If following the POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS pathway, you must choose two of: Comparative Politics in a Globalized World (Sem 1), Theories of IR (Sem 1), and Introduction to Political Data Analysis (Sem 2), although you can take all three if you wish. Students who wish to focus on Politics courses and do a more Politics-focused dissertation should take Comparative Politics in a Globalized World, and those who wish to focus on IR should take Theories of IR.

For Geography pathway please choose 1 per semester from: Economic and Political Geography (Sem 1) OR Global Change (Sem 1) AND Social and Cultural Geography (Sem 2) OR Geomorphology (Sem 2). You must also choose Fundamental Methods in Geography.

For students on the POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS pathway, the following course is compulsory: Research Design in Politics and International Relations (PLIT10106).

For students on the Science, Technology and Innovation (STIS) pathway, the course STIS10014 'Research Design for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies' is compulsory.

In year 3 you must take at least two of the following courses: Social Theory; Designing and Doing Social Research; Doing Survey Research.

For students on the SOCIOLOGY pathway, the following non-credit bearing course is compulsory: Sociology Project Preparation Course (SCIL10091).

For students on the SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY pathway, the following non-credit bearing course is compulsory: Imagining Anthropological Research (SCAN10037).

For students on the POLITICS AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS pathway should select exactly 40 credits of the following courses.

Select exactly 40 credits of Sociology and/or Science, Technology and Innovation Studies honours level courses.

Courses must be relevant for Sustainable Development. See Appendix 2 of the Sustainable Development handbook for a list of suggested courses.

Students can choose an additional Sustainable Development course in fourth year, in place of a Pathway course, if relevant for their dissertation or for other special reason. To do so, they need to contact the Degree Programme Director for permission.
