As an alternative to the mathematics courses, students may take the School of Mathematics courses prescribed for the Year 1 programme of the Theoretical Physics MPhys degree.

Students on any programme owned by the School of Physics and Astronomy may be eligible to transfer onto the Physics with Year Abroad programme at the end of year 3.

Physics and Astronomy Year 2, Direct Entry Students

Select between 10 and 20 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Direct Entry (PoE2) students must take 'Classical and Modern Physics'. Continuing students should take 'Modern Physics'.
A pass in one of these courses is compulsory for progression to Year 3.
AND

Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A to Q, S, T, W and Y

Select between 20 and 40 credits from Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A to Q, S, T, W and Y

Year 3 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Progression to third year requires passes in all second year specified compulsory courses with a minimum average pass mark of 50% (C). This is in addition to the general progression requirement.
