Notes:
For Progression to Year 2, please see the requirements listed in the Year 1 notes.

To enter Year 3 of the programme normally requires passes in at least 100 credit points worth of courses in Year 2. The 100 credit points passed must be from the list of courses given in Year 2 of the Degree Programme Table (DPT) of the student's chosen degree programme.

In addition, entry to Year 3 is normally only permitted if the following pre-requisite courses are passed:

- CIVE08025 Geotechnical Engineering 2
- CIVE08026 Structural Mechanics 2
- SCEE08003 Fluid Mechanics 2

The School has a 40% Rule for 1st and 2nd year courses, i.e. you must achieve a minimum of 40% in coursework and 40% in written exam components, as well as an overall mark of 40% to pass a course. Year 3 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
For progression to Year 3, please see the requirements listed in the Year 2 notes.

To enter Year 4 of the programme requires, in addition to passing the 3rd year, a total of 240 credits of passed courses or recognised prior learning for years 1 and 2 of the Degree Programme Table. [This rule applies to those entering the degree programme from September 2022 onwards]

- The Engineering Council Progression and Graduation Rules -
No more than 30 credits may be compensated for in the degree programme. The following are our rules to enable this condition to be met:

In Year 3 in order to meet the requirements of the Engineering Council, progression requires accumulated full passes in 350 credits of courses, with the remaining credits having marks in the range 30 to 39%.

- Resits for Professional Purposes -
Students NOT achieving full passes in 350 credits AND/OR whose remaining credits have results less than 30% will be required to take 'Resits for Professional Purposes' (RPPs). Compensation of any course or group of courses containing unique AHEP learning outcomes is not permitted.

In addition a full pass is required in each of the following courses (i.e. these courses cannot be compensated):

CIVE09016 Geotechnical Engineering 3
CIVE09034 Conceptual Design and Sustainability for Civil Engineers 3
CIVE09035 Water Engineering, Transport and Treatment 3
CIVE09036 Structural Analysis 3
CIVE09038 Structural Engineering 3
CIVE09039 Civil Engineering Construction 3
CIVE10033 Transport Engineering 3

For any failed courses not qualifying for compensation, students must carry out 'Resits for Professional Purposes' (RPPs).

Progression will then only be permitted once they have achieved the equivalent of full passes in at least 350 credits of courses plus a result of 30% or above in the remaining 10 credits, including passing all courses for which compensation is not permitted. However the mark obtained at the first attempt will be used to calculate the final year average and degree award.

Once Credits on Aggregate have been awarded for any course, Resits for Professional Purposes will no longer be available for that course.

Year 4 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
For progression to Year 4, please see the requirements listed in the Year 3 notes.

- Transfer to MEng -
Students on a BEng programme who achieve an average of 55% or more in Year 3 will be given the option to transfer to Year 4 of the MEng programme. This decision should be made prior to the start of the new academic year.

- University Progression and Graduation Rules -
In Years 3 and 4 the University progression and graduation rules normally require full passes in 80 credits of courses with an overall average of 40% or more for the 120 credits of study taken in the relevant honours year.

- The Engineering Council Progression and Graduation Rules -
No more than 30 credits may be compensated for in the degree programme. The following are our rules to enable this condition to be met:

In Year 4 in order to meet the requirements of the Engineering Council, graduation requires accumulated full passes in 450 credits of courses, with the remaining credits having marks in the range 30 to 39%.

- Resits for Professional Purposes -
Students NOT achieving full passes in 450 credits AND/OR whose remaining credits have results less than 30% will be required to take 'Resits for Professional Purposes' (RPPs). Compensation of any course or group of courses containing unique AHEP learning outcomes is not permitted. In addition a full pass is required in the following course (i.e. this course cannot be compensated):

CIVE10013 BEng Thesis 4 (Civil & Environmental Engineering)

For any failed courses not qualifying for compensation, students must carry out 'Resits for Professional Purposes' (RPPs).

Graduation will then only be permitted once they have achieved the equivalent of full passes in at least 450 credits of courses plus a result of 30% or above in the remaining 30 credits, including passing all courses for which compensation is not permitted. However the mark obtained at the first attempt will be used to calculate the final year average and degree award.

Once Credits on Aggregate have been awarded for any course, Resits for Professional Purposes will no longer be available for that course.

Students who meet the University requirements for graduation, but who fail to meet The Engineering Council requirements will be eligible for the award of the unaccredited BEng Honours in Structural and Fire Safety Engineering Technology.
