| Summary | This course builds on the basic sciences studied previously in relation to medical emergencies as they present for emergency care. |
| Course description |
This course will be delivered by problem-based learning.
The student will be guided through management of medical conditions, rare to common, based on a systemic approach. There will be an emphasis on critical analysis of accepted therapies and investigative approaches.
Students will develop critical appraisal skills and be encouraged to use these in the weekly discussion board posts.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the theoretical framework underpinning current practice in paediatric medical emergency care (knowledge and understanding)
- Analyse the literature to enable developments in knowledge to be implemented in the clinical setting (apply knowledge)
- Understand the pathophysiological basis of illness, and apply the therapies available to help cure and manage clinical conditions (making judgement)
- Present cogent arguments for a chosen line of treatment based on analysis of the available evidence (communication skills)
- Identify learning needs and how to address these, to facilitate their own personal professional development (learning skills)
