SummaryThis course introduces you as a research student to live challenges involved in designing social research projects, gives you space to examine specific challenges in their research projects, and gives you access to advanced methods training. You are invited to think about your research in a reflective and informed way in discussion with fellow students and staff. You will make use of training in advanced methods from staff using cutting edge methods and hands on experience of data collection and analysis.
Course description The course is taught through hands-on, expert led workshops on research and data challenges and advanced methods. It is participatory. Students will bring their own ideas, aims and questions to workshops, explore them with peers and experts, and conduct their own analysis.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Analytical, detailed and involved understanding of issues common to social research projects
  2. Understanding of advanced methods of enquiry at the leading edge of social and political science
  3. Develop original responses to problems and applications of methods
  4. Assess data and arguments related to advanced methods and live problems in social and political science researcg
  5. Make considered assessments of competing ontologies and epistemologies
