MA Accounting and Finance Year 1

Notes:
BUST08036 The Business of Edinburgh is recommended.

ECNM08013 Economics 1 (40 credits) may be chosen instead of ECNM08004 Economic Principles (20 credits) and ECNM08003 Economic Applications (20 credits). Choose Economics 1 if you are considering continuing your studies in Economics in year 2.

Year 2 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
Progression to Year 3 Honours normally requires a Pass in all courses (240 credits) in the first two years, including the following programme specific progression hurdles; (i) a pass of 50% in either Accountancy 2A or Accountancy 2B and (ii) a pass of 50% in either Introduction to Corporate Finance or one of the courses selected in Group A.

Students can gain a number of exemptions from the Professional Accounting bodies (ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, AIA) but these exemptions differ according to each Accounting body. Choose BUST08043 Law for Business or BUST08018 Applications of Finance for accreditation purposes.

Year 3 Academic year: 2024/25, Starting in: August

Notes:
Students in Year 3 must take a minimum of 40 credits per semester.

The Dissertation proposal must be on a research topic in the field of Accounting or Finance.

Students can gain a number of exemptions from the professional Accounting bodies (ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, AIA) but these exemptions differ according to each Accounting body. Students who spend their third year abroad at a partner university must complete and pass a full year's diet of courses (equivalent to 120 credits), as well as equivalent courses to the year 3 compulsory courses in Accounting and Finance.

Notes:
Students in Year 4 must take a minimum of 20 credits of taught courses per semester.

The Business Honours Dissertation must be on a research topic in the field of Accounting or Finance.
