Notes:Although Logic 1 is not a compulsory course for single-honours philosophy students it is strongly recommended, particularly for students who think that they might go on to study philosophy at postgraduate level. It is also a prerequisite for some honours-level philosophy courses. If you choose not to take Logic 1 this year you will have the option to take it in your second year.

    Notes:Where the dissertation is taken in Philosophy, students have two options:
    (i) to take two further option courses in philosophy and be examined on 5000 word essays for each course, or
    (ii) to register for the dissertation completion course and write one 8000 word essay on a topic to be arranged with the department.
    All students who take the dissertation in philosophy must have completed the Philosophy Dissertation Preparation course in year 3.
