Course description | The final course is equivalent to three courses or modules. It is designed to draw together all the teaching and clinical activity from the previous courses and allow students to present and demonstrate the accumulated knowledge. The presentation of case reports represents clinical activity and problem solving skills and the research dissertation or clinic management project represents the skills and attributes in research and enquiry. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes
- To be able to present a review of the current dental literature pertaining to a particular research question
- To be able to select a range of methods of enquiry when researching the dental literature
- To present a portfolio of evidence on completion of this degree programme
- To be able to present a clinical case in a logical sequence
- To have knowledge and critical understanding of the essential theories, principles and concepts of evidence based dentistry and its application in dental primary care.

Assessment Information
The final assessment for the research module will involve the submission of either:
- Two clinical case reports of approximately 5000 words each or
- A literature review of approximately 10-15,000 words or
One clinical case report and one management project based on the clinical environment.
Guidance will be given as to suitable topics.
Satisfactory completion of this final module will give eligibility for the award of the degree of Master of Science in Primary Dental Care of the University of Edinburgh.
