| Summary | This course is the culmination of the previous two years of study and learning on the Paediatric Emergency Medicine programme. The student will define a question which can be answered by either in audit or literature review. In conjunction with their named supervisor they will write an 8000 word dissertation which sets out to answer the question asked. |
| Course description |
Working closely with the supervisor the student will define an area of interest and formulate a 3-part question. In conjunction with the supervisor they will plan the best method for answering the question, taking local facilities and expertise into consideration.
Thereafter the student will work on the topic, assisted by the supervisor.
There will be staged submissions to ensure progress, before the final submissions of:
8000 word dissertation
Abstract and poster based on an element of the dissertation

Students work within a supported environment and will be allocated a University of Edinburgh supervisor for the duration of the course. Formative feedback will be provided by the supervisor through one-to-one meetings, online interaction and written commentary of the student's work. |

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify how to construct a 3-part question (knowledge and understanding)
- Analyse the literature to enable a detailed critique of the clinical question (Apply knowledge)
